Figure 4: The ionic radius increases for the generation of negative ions. The gain of an electron adds more electrons to the outermost shell which increases the radius because there are now more electrons further away from the nucleus and there are more electrons to pull towards the nucleus so the pull becomes slightly weaker than of the neutral atom and causes an increase in atomic radius. Figure 3: The ionic radius decreases for the generation of positive ions.Īn anion, on the other hand, will be bigger in size than that of the atom it was made from because of a gain of an electron. A neutral atom X is shown here to have a bond length of 180 pm and then the cation X + is smaller with a bond length of 100 pm. This can similarly be said about the protons pulling the electrons closer to the nucleus, which as a result decreases atomic size.įigure 3 below depicts this process. If ten magnets and ten metallic objects represent a neutral atom where the magnets are protons and the metallic objects are electrons, then removing one metallic object, which is like removing an electron, will cause the magnet to pull the metallic objects closer because of a decrease in number of the metallic objects. An analogy to this can be of a magnet and a metallic object. It will also decrease because there are now less electrons in the outer shell, which will decrease the radius size. This will cause a decrease in atomic size because there are now fewer electrons for the protons to pull towards the nucleus and will result in a stronger pull of the electrons towards the nucleus. The electron configuration of a oxygen atom is. While core electrons are not involved in bonding, they influence the chemical reactivity of an atom. The loss of an electron means that there are now more protons than electrons in the atom, which is stated above. Generally, valence electrons can participate in the formation of chemical bonding, but core electrons cannot. The loss in an electron will consequently result in a change in atomic radii in comparison to the neutral atom of interest (no charge). The cation, which is an ion with a positive charge, by definition has fewer electrons than protons. In contrast, anions have bigger ionic radii than their corresponding neutral atoms. This process can be applied to other examples of ionic radius.Ĭations have smaller ionic radii than their neutral atoms. So, if we had the compound CaSe, which had a total distance of 278 pm between the nucleus of the Ca atom and Se atom, then the atomic radius of the Ca atom will be 278 pm (total distance) - 178 pm (distance of Se), or 100 pm. If we were able to determine the atomic radius of an atom from experimentation, say Se, which had an atomic radius of 178 pm, then we could determine the atomic radius of any other atom bonded to Se by subtracting the size of the atomic radius of Se from the total distance between the two nuclei. \)decreases going down a group and right to left across the periodic table, the atomic radius will increase going down a group and right to left across the periodic table.

To address these issues, I modified the shell script as follows: diff -git a/+Start ScummVM.sh.original b/+Start ScummVM.sh E.g.: "Day of the Tentacle" is in the ScummVM list, and when you click on it, there is then another "Day of the Tentacle" alone, which if then clicked on suffers from (1) above. svmfile inside its respective directory, and EmulationStation sees that, but it exposes that folder structure in the GUI. But that's backwards: we want the filename to be the full game name, and the contents to be the game ID, no? svm files in ~/roms/scummvm, with filenames matching the game IDs, and contents matching the description. The +Start ScummVM.sh script, after launching ScummVM (whether successfully or not), tries to be smart and (re)generate. The launch script then passes that name unquoted as arguments to ScummVM, resulting in an $ cat /dev/shm/runcommand.logĮxecuting: bash /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/scummvm/+Start\ ScummVM.sh "Day of the Tentacle" svm filename, minus extension, to the +Start ScummVM.sh launcher. I'm working through ScummVM right now, and I got everything working, but my experience with using. Thanks to everyone involved in developing and improving it. For example the spitting and slicing sounds (MI2 at the kitchen and bar) sound quite different compared to a MT-32(Old).I'm setting up RetroPie on a Raspberry Pi 4B, and for the most part it's going super smoothly. That's where you want to have a CM-32L as they use some of the 33 custom sounds. Just depends if you are up for the discovery or not. There is also a list on Wikipedia with games that sound different. This is because the MT-32(Old) amplifies the signal a different way compared to all the other units. On all the other units it clips (clipping is when you overdo it with an amp and it distorts). During the fireworks scene the MT-32(Old) is the only device where the fire works don't clip (you still need to set the volume to ~ 60 or so). So you won't have an issue replicating these phenomenons.Īnother game is Wing Commander. I even have a YouTube video in that link which was recorded on a MT-32(Old). It's not something you notice when you just play the game, you really need to be kind of a perfectionist and have attention to detail The differences are subtle and only certain custom sounds are affected. I tested it and compared practically all my Sierra and Dynamix games with MT32 recordings from Queststudios and they all sound exactly the same on my CM-32L - both in DOSBox and (as far as support goes) in ScummVM. I can test it on XP machine but even if it works well, that doesn't really help me in any way. I also have SB128 soundcard with MIDI output but it's no longer supported in 圆4 systems. So, should we all get a "compatible" interface that might just stop working come next Windows version, or wouldn't it be better to add a software workaround for new hardware to ScummVM?Īnd yes, I do have another, cheap USB MIDI interface but that one never quite worked right. One such cable was close to being made obsolete when the manufacturer got very tardy with 圆4 driver for Vista and Windows 7. No idea why, maybe those have built-in SysEx throttling or are simply somewhat slower in general. I do realize that there are MIDI cables out there that "just work". All I'm asking for is a system like in DOSBox, doesn't even need to be a GUI option, I can work with config files just fine. ScummVM doesn't work properly for me and there is no way, as far as I know, to slow down SysEx data sent to MT-32. The reason this got added is because many people had problems similar to mine, and asked for help on VOGONS forum. Just like that, never had any real problems with it.ĭOSBox works only when slowed down to a crawl, or with the SysEx throttling system introduced in SVN. I don't think it's broken though, rather it's too fast for the poor old MT-32 Oh, I'm pretty sure now it's due to my USB MIDI interface. |
